Used for the determination of benzene and toluene in finished motor and aviation gasoline by gas chromatography.

Benzene can be determined between the levels of 0.1 and 5 volume%.

This test was designed in mind for both conventional gasoline and gasoline containing Alcohols and Ethers. Once Ethanol became a major player in the domestic gasoline market the Columns and internal standard were modified in the method to yield a result that did not interfere with oxygenates.

The sample is prepared by adding 4% 2-Butanol internal standard to the sample to be analyzed. It is then injected into the GC. Once injected, the GC will separate the Benzene, Toluene, and 2-Butanol before reaching the thermal conductivity detector. Once it reaches the detector it will feed the readings back to the software to calculate the contents basis the calibration curve and internal standard value.
