Vacuum Distillation

  • Method ASTM D1160
  • Repeatability variable, see method
  • Reproducibility variable, see method
  • Blending non-linear
  • Additive Correction No

This method is used for the determination, at reduced pressures, of the range of boiling points for petroleum products that can be partially or completely vaporized at a maximum liquid temperature of 400C. There is a manual method and an automatic method specified.

This method is very similar to the above D86 distillation method but it includes the use of a sealed glassware system attached to a vacuum pump. This is done to extend the effective boiling range of the unit without additional heat. Products covered in this method are heavier than diesel and include vgo, mdo, No6 fuel oil, etc.
