Nace Corrosion

  • Method TM0172
  • Repeatability None Established
  • Reproducibility None Established
  • Blending non-linear
  • Additive Correction Yes

This test method was created to aid in the determination of how corrosive products traveling through the pipeline systems are to the materials they are made of. It was written by a group named the National Association of Corrosion Engineers.

In order to perform the test a steel bullet specimen is polished to ensure a uniform finish. The specimen is then suspended in a mixture of product and water that has been heated to 104°F. This mixture with specimen is stirred for 3.5 hours. Once complete the specimen is examined for rust and corrosion and given a rating. This rating ranges from A (no corrosion) to E (covered in corrosion).
